Paramita is located on the main Colombo - Kandy road, about 100 km from Colombo, just before the town of Kadugannawa. From the Meditation Hall, one can see the morning mists blanketing the hillsides as they roll up the valley. On special evenings the sunset over the valley in the direction of Colombo is spell-binding.

Either before or after your stay at Paramita, you may wish to visit some of the attractions just minutes away from the Centre. All of them can easily be reached by bus or taxi. Only 8 km north is Perideniya University, home to a highly acclaimed Buddhist and Pali department. Many of the modern texts on Buddhist history and ethics have been written by prominent professors at this prestigious seat of learning. Across the road from the University is the world famous Perideniya Botanic Garden.

Kandy, the last capital of the kings of Sri Lanka lies just another 6 km beyond. Here, on the shore of Kandy Lake, is the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). During the full moon of July/August, the Kandy Esala Perehera is held for seven nights. Besides traditional dancers and musicians, scores of elephants in illuminated cloaks join in the procession.

Sri Lanka is a typically tropical country with wet and dry seasons. From May to August the southwest monsoon brings rain to the Kadugannawa area. The corresponding dry season is from December to March. Kadugannawa is at about 450m altitude and has an average temperature of about 25C. March and April are the hottest months.
