During the guided meditation program, we observe the Eight Precepts and as such there is no evening meal. For those who need food in the evening for medical reasons, permission may be obtained from the teacher.

Noble silence will be observed from after check-in until check-out. Mindfulness should be carried over into all activities while at the Centre.

During the periods without guided meditation, meditators may optionally choose to follow the Five Precepts. In such cases, evening meals (8:00PM) may be arranged.

Rev. K. Vanarathana, Resident Monk and Meditation Teacher

Born at Kurunegala (near central Sri Lanka), Rev. Vanarathana became a novice when he was 12 years old. He earned a BA from Kelaniya University and a Post Graduate degree in Education from the University of Colombo.
Before taking up his position at Paramita he had taught at several pirivenas (schools for monks) and practiced in the “forest monk” tradition.
Besides being the principal meditation instructor at Paramita, he teaches at a nearby pirivena and conducts meditation courses for local groups from Kudugannawa.

Pujas

Please join us for the three daily Pujas in the Shrine Hall. You are most welcome to participate in the offerings of light, incense and flowers. Cushions are provided or bring your own.

The Buddhabhivadana, Ti-Sarana, Panca Sila and Vandanas are recited in Pali. At the evening Puja, the Karaniya and Maha Mangala Sutas are also chanted.

On Poya (Full Moon days), a special evening Puja is conducted from 7:00PM to 8:30PM. Usually, 150 to 200 villagers will come for the ceremony.

Every other Saturday, from 9:00AM to 4:00pm, 50 to 70 village ladies come for meditation.
